My Creative Process and A Simple Warm-up Exercise to Spark Inspiration for Writing
Hello Creative Soul,
Here’s a little peek into my CREATIVE PROCESS: I have an opportunity to be featured on Psychology Today, so I blocked out some time to write a couple of drafts for the articles I need to submit.
My morning started w/good intentions. I brewed a single cup of Vietnamese coffee (I never drink coffee, so this a special productivity treat for me!).
Then, I took care of some health/medical priorities, calls to doctors and such...just getting that ALL out the way so that I don’t have to worry about tying up loose ends or random phone calls.
THEN (surprise, surprise) I found myself procrastinating just a weeeee bit). AKA looking at junk email that I would never give my attention to on any regular given day...looking at old ‘memories’ that pop up...oh, the good ol’ days!! (My 5yo actually used that term this morning guys!).
As soon as I caught myself in that mode, I immediately stopped and created the environment I needed to get inspired to write...
💗 I lit an incense.
💗 Cleared the room.
💗 Cleared my mind.
💗 Cleared the 1,727,827 tabs on my browser
💗 Put on some tunes.
💗 THEN, created a mandala in my sketchbook...
WHAT?!
I know what you’re thinking: ‘There she goes procrastinating again...’
(Trust me, those thoughts came to my mind a million times this morning).
HOWEVER, I was setting the mood and doing the thing that I teach my clients every time we work together. It’s SO simple and divine:
💗 CREATE SACRED SPACE
💗 ACTIVATE YOUR RIGHT BRAIN
💗 CENTER YOUR HEART
And so, this is what it looks like to practice what I preach. So that I can write from a place of INSPIRATION rather than DOING. It’s getting into that creative zone (it’s what us artists like to call creative warm-up exercises) so that we can leap into our genius zones and FLYYYY.
I hope you found this helpful and inspiring. If you’d like to learn more about starting your own creativity practice be sure to visit my website to find more info!
Much love and creative bliss,
