my fave big sur shot

my fave big sur shot. by desiree east just got back from a little trip up the coast, and spent the summer solstice in complete quiet bliss. this photo was actually hanging on our fridge door. i forget what year this is from...but it's one of my favorites. hence, it's qualification for being refrigerator-door-worthy. hopefully i can make some time this summer to do some post-editing and upload more big sur pics - and archives of endless photos - to my portfolio. digital, film, lomo fish-eye...oh, and a million little pictures project. it's a grueling task, editing and organizing, but i love to reminisce (isn't that what it's all about?) also, a note to family and friends: please remind me if i need to send you a private link to any past events, because - like brendon said - i am as slow as molasses. stay tuned...xo

describe the best road trip you've ever taken

big creek bridge. photo by desiree east The best, best, bestest road trip I've ever taken was during our honeymoon, of course! (The second bestest road trip would have to be any and all trips to Baja). You see, we are simple people, who love the adventure of spontaneity. No fancy resorts or crowded beaches. Just me, my hubby and the open road. For our honeymoon, we decided to spend two weeks on the road and take a trip up the coast from California, up to the Oregon coast. We camped and surfed on the way up and on the way back down. It was amaaaazing (as I bat my eyelashes and clasp my hand to my heart). I'm such a sucker for romance.

Before Brendon and I got engaged, we were both finishing up our studies, separately at college. I was up at UC Santa Cruz and Brendon was at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. We would visit each other between our studies and take mini trips to the Big Sur coast. To this day, we've continued the tradition of camping and surfing up there at least once, if not several, times a year. Sometimes we'd shoot up there by ourselves for a quick getaway and sometimes we'd meet up with friends and family.

It's our home away from home, and it's become a yearly road trip I most certainly always look forward to...

three countries I'd like to visit

Actually, there are a ton of countries I'd like to visit (and can someone, please tell me, how do you save for that and plan for a family???) Some places on my bucket list include Chile, Peru, China, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Australia, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Greece - Yeah, I realize, at this point, I'm talking out of my ass - Oh, and maybe even Morocco because (obviously) the surf there is supposed to be insane. Plus, if I can get the same deal that Carrie Bradshaw scored on these comfy-domfy, moroccan slippers, well shoots, I'm there! moroccann babouches. photo by Ralph Ledergerber

Okay, because we all know I'm not a billionaire, here are three countries that are on my list of places to visit in the hopefully-maybe, very near future and the reasons why. (Yeah, I know, New Zealand and Japan are expensive as hell, so if anyone has any helpful tips they have to make it more affordable, please feel free to share).

INDONESIA

Why?

surf · rich, colorful culture, sacred sites and temples · alluring beauty

JAPAN

Why?

NEW ZEALAND

Where would you go? And if any of you have any surf / travel tips to share with me or other posters, please spread the love...xoxoxo
